ACL Injury Ends Cameron Brink’s Rookie Season Early

Cameron Brink, the number 3 overall selection of the Los Angeles Sparks in the 2024 draft, has quickly become a fan favorite in the WNBA. She had a promising start to the year, averaging 7 points and 5 rebounds, but stood out for her defensive presence. Unfortunately, after a non-contact injury against the Connecticut Sun, Brink had to be carried off of the court. She has officially been diagnosed with a torn ACL and will miss the remainder of the season. She will also miss the 2024 Olympics, where she was set to star for the 3-on-3 team alongside Rhyne Howard and Hailey Van Lith.

Brink’s addition to the league has been a big reason behind the recent spike in interest in the WNBA. As one of the most well known players by non-WNBA fans she has been a great voice for the league, featuring on numerous talk shows and making sure to acknowledge the history of the league and the players who paved the way. She has amassed a large fanbase, now having over 1 million followers on Instagram. Everyone is sad to her season end in such a tragic way. Brink shared a thoughtful message on social media and while heartbroken showed a lot of optimism. She also received an avalance of support from fellow players and fans. It’s evident that in a short time Brink has already made a significant impact in the WNBA.

The LA Sparks now sitting at 4-11 on the season will feel her absence, however, can be optimistic about next season. They currently have the 3rd worst record in the WNBA and with Brink out for the rest of the year don’t expect the LA Sparks to go on a winning streak any time soon. This will allow for Rickea Jackson, the 4th pick of the draft 2024 draft, to get more opportunities, as she is one of the few positive aspects about this Sparks team along with Dearica Hamby. They will likely have a great chance to get the number 1 pick in next years draft, potentially giving them the opportunity to get Paige Buekers, star guard at the University of Connecticut and one of the most highly anticipated WNBA prospects in recent years. If you want to catch the Sparks in action, they will take on the New York Liberty on Prime Video today, June 20th.
