Aliyah Boston and Caitlin Clark Lead the Fever to OT Win

Aliyah Boston and Caitlin Clark stepped up to help the Fever win 104-100 in overtime against the Dream. Boston had a season-high 30 points and 13 rebounds. Her efficiency was great, going 11/16 from the field and she shot a perfect 8/8 from the free-throw line. Boston showed off her footwork against the seasoned veteran Tina Charles and dominated the paint. With the game on the line, it was Boston who sent the game to overtime. In a play where the Atlanta defense was hyper-concerned with denying Caitlin Clark a touch, Aliyah Boston perfectly read the situation. She faked the handoff to Clark and finished the layup to send the game to OT. She is in elite form, having scored 20 and 24 points in the 2 previous games. One of the only players on a hotter streak than her is her partner in crime, Caitlin Clark.

Caitlin Clark continued her dominance, scoring 26 points and dishing out 12 assists. She had 14 points and 6 assists in the second half, showing the Fever that they can count on her in the clutch. The best part about her performance was that she stayed within herself. Clark would rather lose making the right play than forcing up a bad shot and that is the sign of a good leader. She found Aliyah Boston time and time again, constantly feeding the hot hand. Her stepback 3-pointer was lethal against the Dream. When she has that falling, it’s deflating for the opposing team. Jordin Canada is one of the best on-ball defenders in the WNBA and Caitlin Clark had her working harder than she has all season. While Clark thrived for a lot of the game, the Dream made life difficult for her and the turnover struggles continued.

Clark had 9 turnovers against the Dream and at least 7 turnovers in the last 3 games. Addressing this before the playoffs is crucial. Heavy turnovers for a rookie point guard with this much usage aren’t normally a problem. The difference is that this isn’t a typical rookie and her team is looking to make noise in the playoffs. This won’t work against the WNBA’s best teams. This was proven in the Fever’s most recent loss to the Wings. Clark had 7 turnovers and cited one of them as the turning point of the game. Her acknowledgment of the problem makes me confident that she will be able to clean up the giveaways before the playoffs begin. The Fever will be back in action when they take on the defending champion Las Vegas Aces at 7:00 PM EST.
