This is one of the biggest All-Star snubs the WNBA has ever seen. The Australian Center has had a tremendous season, averaging 13.4 points, 8.8 rebounds, 2.2 blocks, and 1.6 steals per game. Even with a slightly diminished role with the additions of Ogwumike and Diggins-Smith, she is having her best WNBA season so far, with career-highs in rebounds, blocks, and steals. On top of this, the Storm are currently one of the best teams in the league, sitting at 13-6. If you want proof that Ezi deserves justice, look at the stats below, Magbegor is making history with this All-Star snub.
The Fever and Sun have 3 All-Stars which is what is preventing from Ezi being on the team. She has worse stats in nearly every category and her team only has 2 more wins than Magbegor’s Storm. Brionna Jones has had a great comeback season after tearing her Achilles, however, that narrative shouldn’t carry enough weight to get the nod over Magbegor.
Aliyah Boston is the other player that could be replaced by Ezi. There is no reason why the Fever, who are 5 games under .500 should have 3 All-Star representatives. This selection was based on popularity as she had the second-highest fan vote total after Caitlin Clark. Boston is one of the best bigs in the league and last year was deserving of her All-Star Selection. However, this season it would be nice to see Ezi Magbegor rewarded for her play that leads to winning. If you need a visual representation of how egregious this decision is I’ve attached a player comparison below. Hopefully, there will be justice for Ezi and she will find a way to be an All-Star replacement.
