Player of the Day 07/10/24: Kahleah Copper

Kahleah Copper is making her 2nd appearance as the WNBA Universe Player of the Day. She helped lead the Mercury past the Wings again with 32 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists. This is the 2nd consecutive game against Dallas where she scored 30 or more points. The Wings can’t guard her. Copper was able to get in the paint at will. She was the quickest and most athletic player on the court by a large margin. Copper only went 1/4 from the 3-point line but that didn’t matter because of her ability to get to the rim. She went 7/9 from the free-throw line and shot 63.2% field, a truly dominant performance. This is now her 7th game with 30 or more points which is the most in the entire WNBA. Her highlights from the game are electric.

The Dallas Wings will be happy when they are finally done having to play Kahleah Copper. She was blowing by defenders all night and once she gets you on her hip there is no stopping her. It felt like every time she had Odyssey Sims on her she was going to get an easy layup. The Dallas Wings are one of the worst defensive teams in the league and Copper took full advantage. For someone so quick she has a very soft touch around the rim. She makes WNBA League Pass worth the price as it’s always a joy watching her dominate a late-night game in Phoenix. This is her 1st season on the team and she is fitting in seamlessly. Copper has been such a standout that she was selected to represent the United States in the 2024 Olympics and is also an All-Star. Because she’s already torched the Wings, the previous write-up for her standout performance is below.
