Player of the Day 07/05/24: Angel Reese

Angel Reese led the Chicago Sky past the Seattle Storm with a final score of 88-84. She continues to make history, scoring a career-high 27 points and 10 rebounds. That is her 12th consecutive double-double, tying Candace Parker for the most in WNBA history. Her name is with good company, Candace Parker is one of the most talented players the league has ever seen. Reese leads the WNBA in rebounding with 11.7 per game, an unbelievable accomplishment and especially extraordinary for a rookie. However, the most shocking part of Reese’s big game was her 3-point shooting. After not making 1 all year she went 2 for 2 from behind the 3-point line.

Her scoring has come a long way. Reese is now a threat from the mid-range and has answered the questions about her efficiency. Her role is much different than was anticipated. Reese is the most important player on the team, along with guard Chennedy Carter. Before the season nobody would’ve predicted that these two players would lead the offense. Carter began the season on the bench, and people doubted Reese’s offensive abilities coming out of college.” While Marina Mabrey has struggled with her shooting, these two have helped fill the void and combined for 60 points. Fired up after the big win, Carter picked Angel Reese for Rookie of the Year in the post-game press conference.

The rookie has been humble in how she’s handled her success. With this performance, she has spearheaded to the top of many Rookie rankings. This only motivates her as she has become as much of a scoring threat as she is a problem on the glass. This 2024 rookie class is special and the now All-Star Angel Reese is one of the main reasons behind that. The Chicago Sky will be back in action against the Seattle Storm on July 7th.
