Player of the Day 07/07/24: Natasha Cloud

Natasha Cloud had a career night, finishing the game with 31 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists. She helped the Phoenix Mercury defeat the LA Sparks 84-78. The Mercury were without the WNBA’s all-time leading scorer, Diana Taurasi, and one of their most important players Rebecca Allen. Cloud came out of the gates firing, scoring 13 points in the 1st quarter. She was also extremely efficient throughout the game. Cloud shot 62.5% from the field, 4/6 from the 3-point line, and 7/7 from the free-throw line. She got whatever she wanted, however she wanted it.

She is one of many new members of the Phoenix Mercury. She joined the team this season alongside Kahleah Copper and Rebecca Allen. Natasha Cloud has fit in seamlessly and provides much-needed playmaking on a team loaded with scoring. However, like she did against the Sparks she is more than capable of taking on the offensive load when key members are out. People consistently overlook her for accolades like the All-Star team, despite her being a complete player. This performance is a reminder of the fact that Natasha Cloud is an All-Star caliber player. The stat line that she had against the Sparks hasn’t happened since 2016 and if she hadn’t already, Cloud is putting the league on notice.

There is a clear connection between all of the players in Phoenix which is in large part led by Natasha Cloud. This team has the potential to cause a lot of problems for the title contenders in the WNBA. After the All-Star break, it wouldn’t be surprising to see them start winning more consistently. Phoenix will host the 2024 All-Star game and it’s disappointing that we won’t see Cloud. The Mercury are full of talent and enjoy playing with each other, despite the fact that there are so many new faces. Check out their reaction to the big win.
